21 Apr 2000 died of congestive heart failure while riding on his tractor on his farm in Roy, Utah.
Up until the time Jay Dean went into the Army he was called Dean. In the Army they called him by his first name, Jay, and he liked that, so from then on he was known as Jay.

He was born January 1, 1924 in South Weber, a son of John W. and Myrle Francom Kendell. On November 19, 1951, Jay married Elizabeth "Betty" Rogers in Carson City, Nevada. He was raised and educated in South Weber, graduating from Davis High School. He lived in San Francisco, California, Ogden, and in Roy since 1960. Jay was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Air Force. He had been the director of storage and transportation for Defense Depot Ogden, retiring after 38 years of service. He had also worked at Hill Air Force Base with their Minuteman project. Jay was a member of the San Joaquin Lodge No. 19 Free & Accepted Masons of Stockton, California. Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Roy; one daughter, Sheri (Bill) Jackson, Layton; three grandchildren, Amber (Jayson) Bailey, Clearfield; Heather (Jeff) Boris, Riverdale; Emily Wilson, Layton; two step-grandchildren, Donna (Adam) Steele, Roy; Chad (Lashay) Jackson, Syracuse; and three great-grandchildren. Jay is also survived by one brother and three sisters, V. Kay Kendell, Arizona; Fae (Parley) Burrows, Washington Terrace; LaVell Smith, Roy; Donna (Ivan) Corina, Hooper. He was preceded in death by one sister, Adella (Glen) Ellis. Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lindquist's Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Fairfax Road and Virginia, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.
