    • Born and raised in Elwood, Box Elder, Utah. Moved to Snowville 28 Sep 1929. Moved to California, worked in the trucking business and eventually was co-owner of a trucking company. Married Phillis Frederickson 15 Mar 1934 in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona, by Elder J. Robert Price. On 12 Dec 1934, he was endowed in the Arizona Temple and sealed to his wife. Father of four children: Shirley Ann, Paul Glen, Stanley Grant and Duane Lee. Member of the Duncan City Council from 1953 until his death. Member of the chamber of commerce from 1958 until his death. President of the Duncan Rotary Club and respresentative to the club's international convention in Mexico City. Mayor of Duncan from 1955 to 1959 and chairman of the Republican county committee. Vice president of Copper Council Boy Scout Council from 1958 to 1963, and received the Silver Beaver award in 1962. Manager of the General Utilities and Light Company in Duncon, Arizona. Served as president of the Fourth Quorum of Elders in Duncon, Arizona for six years. Served with his wife as leader of the young married group in their Stake for eight years. Died of a heart attack at the Safford hospital at age 53. Buried in Duncan Cemetery, Duncan, Greenlee, Arizona.

      ARIZONA SCOUTER WINS SILVER BEAVER AWARD

      Glen Francom, superintendent of the YMMIA in Duncan, Ariz., was recently presented the Silver Beaver Award by the Copper Council, Boy Scouts of America.

      The Silver Beaver is given annually on a Council basis to a leader who has contributed outstandingly to community and church as well as scouting.

      Mr. Francom is a former mayor of Duncan and has served on the city council here since 1953. He is also a past president of the Rotary.

      He has worked in scouting for 15 years and is currently vice president in the Copper Council.

      Mr. Francom is general manager of the City Utilities Company in Duncan.

      He is an active member of the Church and in addition to serving as MIA superintendsent, he sponsors the Young Married group in Duncan.

      In presenting the award, Monroe Claridge of Stafford, chairman of the council's Silver Beaver Committee said "Glen Francom is the unanimous choice of the committee to receive this highest award given by our council.

      From newspaper article published in Arizona 5 Aug 1957:

      GLEN FRANCOM RETAINED AS DUNCAN MAYOR

      The members of the Town Council of Duncan met on August 5 for their first meeting of the 1957-1958 fiscal year. The first order of business was the election of mayor by the newly elected council members. Glen Francom was retained in the office as mayor for the coming fiscal year.

      The council is very anxious to get the sewerage project under way and is making application through its engineer, Mr. Hanen Williams of Williams Engineering Company, Phoenix, for financial assistance as offered by the Federal Government under provisions of Public Law 345 and 660.

      The council members agreed to retain in office all current employees of the city, namely: James Boyce Scott, Attorney; H. T. Clothier, Clerk; T. C. Whinery, Marshall; J. B. Wright, Magistrate and Garbage Collector; J. R. Johnson, Cemetery Supervisor, and Duff Chapman, Public Works Supervisor.

      The rapaid of the city dyke and improvement of several streets were discussed along with other current business items.

      GLEN COLE FRANCOM
      Special to The Gazette

      DUNCAN - Services for Glen Cole Francom, 53, former mayor of Duncan and holder of the Silver Beaver Award in scouting were held yesterday in the Duncan Ward chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

      Mr. Francom had been a member of the Duncan City Council since 1953, a member of the chamber of commerce since 1958, was a past president of the Duncan Rotary Club, and a representative to the club's international convention in Mexico City.

      He was president of the Fourth Quorum of Elders of the Mount Graham Stake for six years and, with his wife, served as sponsor of the LDS Young Marrieds Group in Duncan for eight years.

      In scout activities, he was Copper Councel vice president from 1958 to 1963 and received the
      Silver Beaver award in 1962.

      Surviving Mr. Francom, who died Saturday at Safford Inn Hospital, are his wife, Phyllis, a daughter, Mrs. Dale Ridenhour of Phoenix, three sons, Paul of Globe, Stanley in Argentina, and Duane of Duncan; his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Francom of Fremont, Utah; four brothers and three sisters out of state, and two grandchildren.

      GLEN FRANCON, FORMER MAYOR OF DUNCAN, DIES

      Stafford - Rites will be in Duncan today for Glen Francon, 53, Duncan councilman and former mayor of that town, who died here late Saturday.

      Mr. Francon, who apparently suffered a heart attack in his Duncan home, died in a Stafford hospital shortly after being taken there by ambulance.

      He was major of Duncan from 1955 to 1959 and chairman of the Republican county committee.

      An active member of the Copper Council Boy Scout group, Mr. Francon last year received the Silver Beaver Award. He was vice president and finance chairman for the council.

      Mr. Francon was past president of the Rotary Club. In 1952 he was its representative to the international convention in Mexico City.

      He was manager of the General Utilities Water and Light Co. in Duncan.

      For six years Mr. Francon served as president of the Fourth Quorum of Elders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

      For eight years, Mr. Francon and his wife, Phyllis, were sponsors of the young married group in their church.

      In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Paul Glen, of Globe; Stanley Grant, currently on a mission in Argentina, A.A., and Duane Lee of Duncan; a daughter, Mrs. Dale Ridenhour of Phoenix; his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Francon of Treemont, Utah; and two grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Duncan LDS Ward chapel. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery.

      Friends may call until service time.
