He was born in Tyrone County, Ireland in 1739, according to some histories, and brought to New England when a child. Some of his descendants were very prominent people. They assumed the name of Riddle later, but Riddell is believed to be the correct name. He married Rebecca Moulton and they lived in Brimfield and then Monson, Massachusets. It is said he served in the Revolutionary War. He died in Monson in 1809 at age 70 years. His son, John Riddle, moved to Alexander, Genesee, New York at the same time John Squire went there, about 1708. Together they pioneered the “Holland Purchase.”
