    Notes
    • International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Pioneer Women of Faith and Fortitude, Vols. I-IV. Publishers Press, 1998.

Agnes was born in Scotland, 1781. She married William Adamson in 1799, they had thirteen children. She and her husband were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1843. Her husband died in 1844.

In February, 1848, Agnes with two of her sons left Scotland for Liverpool on the steamship, “Admiral.” They had a rough trip and were very sick. They were taken to a boarding house and were cared for until they boarded the ship “Carnatic” sailing to America. The company left New Orleans on April 23, on the steamboat “Mameluke.” They arrived April 30, and went to Winter Quarters. Agnes was sixty-eight years old when she joined a wagon train and crossed the Plains, arriving in the Salt Lake Valley, 1848.

Her first home was a dugout but she made it comfortable for her and her sons. In 1856, her daughter and three sons came to the Valley. It was a joyous reunion. Agnes had longed to see her children again, and she lived only a few weeks after this event.

Agnes passed away on November 12, 1856 and was buried in Salt Lake City.
